I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Theft - (shoplifting, personal, other), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. A 23-year-old man from Totton has been jailed for 18 weeks after admitting to seven shopliftings from stores in Totton.
Shane Wright, of Brunswick Place, was sentenced when he appeared at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on (Thursday 8 January).
As well the time he will now spend behind bars, Wright must also pay £400 in compensation to the shops in question.
Wright was jailed after stealing chocolate, meat and alcohol from Morrisons on Spruce Drive and Aldi on Salisbury Road between Thursday 20 November and Friday 26 December.
Speaking after the outcome at court, Sergeant Rob Blake, of Totton Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I’m pleased for the stores in question, as well as the wider business community here, that Wright has been held accountable for his actions.
"Retail crime remains one of our local priorities, in addition to all the other work that the team is dealing with on a daily basis.
“This case should once again demonstrate our commitment to seriously tackling shoplifting across the Totton area and the New Forest as a whole.”
